This past weekend, I did a little flower box gardening on the front steps. The flower box's I purchased at TJ Maxx, total cost for the planters under $15.
The next day Henry took me to Armstrong nursery where we purchased a nice mix of flowering plants that will keep blooming throughout the whole summer and fall, total cost of the plants with some top soil $20.
Total cost about $35 to add color we can enjoy for many months to come.
It's Summer, and there is no excuse for not using the freshest ingredients to cook with. Henry and I are renters, and we have a small side yard not enough for a big garden. Being renters, we also want things that we can take with us when we move. With this in mind, I recently went to our local greenhouse/plant center and picked up a planter, fresh herbs and did a little gardening on our front step.
For about $30 in total cost we will have Fresh Herbs all Summer long which is already coming in handy as we are firing up the grill. We have Thyme, Sage, Rosemary, Basil and Mint in our herb garden. The mint is already finding its way into our iced tea. So if your looking something different to do this weekend, check out your local greenhouse and plant your own herb garden. It really does make a difference in the taste of the food using fresh versus dried.
