It is a bit toasty outside today. While doing our weekend grocery shopping I made sure we picked up ingredients to make some home made ice cream. Today we made my favorite, Rum Raisin. Making ice cream is fairly easy, we have a Cuisinart ice cream maker which has a large drum that you freeze. Once frozen solid, you pour in ingredients, set the machine to on, and let it spin the ingredients for 20 minutes until creamy and yummy. For the rum raisin ice cream combine 2 cups of heavy cream, 1 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of rum flavoring and 3/4 cup of sugar. Put in the frozen drum and mix for 20 minutes. About 17 minutes into the mixing, add 1/2 cup of raisins and continue to mix 3 minutes. When done spoon into a container and freeze for an additional hour or so. Simple and yummy, and ohhh so good.
For my birthday last April, Henry gave me a gift certificate to Williams-Sonoma. And after spending an hour looking at all the wonderful things, I settled on this fairly inexpensive Cuisinart ice cream maker which came with two drums that you freeze so you always have one ready to make ice cream, and everyone can make their favorite one. The total cost of the machine was only $59 and we have used it quite a bit since April.
